The Essex Dog Photographer heading

Capturing precious moments that will last a lifetime

At The Essex Dog Photographer, we understand the unique bond there is between you and your dog, and capturing that love is what we strive to achieve on every photoshoot.

Booking a photoshoot for your dog may seem like a daunting idea, but we like to keep things simple. Our On Location Photoshoots are at a location chosen by you, where you know your dog will feel safe, comfortable and free to run and have fun. Or if your dog prefers the safety & comfort of their own home, then we can come to you.

Whatever you decide, we'll be there with treats & toys to capture those puppy dog eyes and create the moments to last a lifetime.

How it works

STEP 1. ENQUIRY FORM It all starts with a click & a chat. Once you have filled out the enquiry form, we'll call you for an informal chat about your requirements, your dogs likes & dislikes, allergies & personality. We'll also discuss what to expect on the day and be able to answer any questions you may have.

STEP 2. PLANNING THE DAY Once you're ready to go ahead it's time to start planning! Location is completely your choice, so you know your dog with feel comfortable, safe and familiar in their surroundings but we also know a few spots just in case you're not sure. I will send you an email to confirm location & time

STEP 3. THE DAY ITSELF On the day we'll meet up and I'll slowly introduce myself to your dog. They can have a good sniff of me and the equipment to familiarise themselves before we head off for the photoshoot. The session itself will be very relaxed and there is never any pressure for your dog to do anything that they're not comfortable with. We like natural, candid photos so think of it as a normal walk but with me tagging along! The session should last about 1 hour but we don't like to clock watch. If it goes over, then that's fine with us. I will bring treats & toys but will always ask your permission before giving anything to your dog.

STEP 4. TIME TO EDIT After the session, I will go away and meticulously edit your photos. Within 48 hours I will send you a couple of sneak peaks before the rest are completed in around 7-10 days.

STEP 5. CHOOSING YOUR IMAGES This step is easier said than done! Once all the photos have been edited, I will create a private, online gallery for you to pick your favourites. This is also a good opportunity to let me know if you would like any changes done to the edits.

STEP 6. BRINGING THE IMAGES TO LIFE. Once you have picked your favourite photos, we will do one final edit before sending to our professional printers to produce the incredible items included in your package. These will be personally delivered to you by us.

I absolutely loved our portraits of our little Dottie. Matt was very professional, patient, calm & very good with Dottie. She can be a nervous Dog sometimes but she took to him straight away. I would definitely recommend to anyone that wants some stunning photos.

About our Photographer

My name is Matt Baron-Thompson

I have been a photographer for almost 20 years, but my career didn't start with dogs. It started with portraits & weddings! From there I moved on to nature, landscapes & flower photography.

But my passion is with Dogs. As a loving dog owner, you will know just how special our furry family members are. Their uniqueness, quirks, personality & love is beautiful to experience and even more rewarding to capture.

They really do change our lives.

My aim is to capture all of this in my photos for you to cherish forever. I like to photograph outdoors where the dogs have room to run, have fun and feel relaxed & comfortable. And I always spend time getting to know your dog, which, in turn, allows them to get to know me!

FAQs
  • Can I bring more than 1 dog?
We can photograph up to 2 dogs from the same household. More than that and it starts to get a little tricky!
  • What if my dog is nervous?
We have photographed many dogs with very different temperaments so understand that every dog is different. For nervous dogs we slow things down, take our time and wait until your dog is ready. The first 15-20 minutes of the session is spent as a familiarisation period so your dog can get used to me & the equipment.
  • Can I keep my dog on the lead?
Absolutely! If you feel more comfortable keeping your dog on the lead then that's not a problem. On the day we will just ask you to position the lead a certain way to make it easier for us to work our photoshop magic.
  • What if the weather is bad?
Unfortunately, we can't control the weather. If the conditions are against us then we can simply rearrange the session for another day. If this is not possible for some reason, we would refund your booking fee.
  • Where do you source your products?
All our products are sourced right here in the UK. Every order is hand crafted from start to finish by a skilled team of craftspeople using traditional techniques and the latest printing technology. In addition, all the papers used are FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved and their packaging is made from a minimum of 75% recycled materials.
  • Do I need to bring treats & toys?
We believe in positive reinforcement so we always recommend that you bring treats & toys. But if you forget, don't worry as we always bring some too! It's important to note that we will always ask about any dietary requirements or allergies before giving your dog any treats.
  • What if my dog isn't behaving?
We always ask that you remind your dog of some simple commands like sit, stay etc but if they decide to ignore all that on the day and, let's be honest, it can happen, then it's not a problem. We have photographed many dogs of varying behaviours and tailor our style to suit. Oh, and we have a lot of patience, so that helps!
  • How long does an outdoor session last?
We don't like to clock watch on our sessions, and we certainly don't like to rush! A session lasts as long as it needs to, but typically we find 1 hour normally suffices. If it takes longer than that's not a problem. We cater to you & your dog so if you're both happy to continue then so are we.
  • What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel for whatever reason with more than 48 hours notice, then a full refund will be given. It's it within 48 hours of your booking date then no refund will be provided. Bookings can be rearranged due to illness or bad weather without any charge.
  • How do I pay for the booking?
To secure your booking, the quickest & simplest way is to use our online booking system on the website. Either click the 'Secure your booking now' button or click Booking on the main menu. You will then be able to choose your time & date and pay via credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal. You can also book one of our packages directly on the website by clicking the 'Buy Now' button just underneath the Package details. Alternatively, we can send you a paylink directly to your email, this link can be used to pay by credit card, Apple & Google Pay or PayPal.
